Project RPKN

Receiver

I started with a metal G&P Ak-47 receiver. First I filled up the lightening cuts and the existing sling hole with Polyfibre.

To prevent the Polyfibre from running into the receiver I first glued the sling hole from the inside with glue.

After this the filled up surfaces were sanded down with sandpaper with different grit.

Then I made the RPK reinforcementplates from 2mm thick aluminium plates. The curvatures of the rear sight base trunnion like on the real stamped receiver were made from 1mm thick aluminium.

Getting the right model took a lot of hours of manual sanding down.

The reinforcementplates and curvatures were attached to the receiver using Polyurethaneglue.

Finishing was done with Polyfibre, which offcourse needed further sanding to finish off.

After this I made a blueprint to know the location of the rivets. I used this to mark the holes and then drilled them.

Then the rivets got attached using Polyurethaneglue.

The receiver is now ready to be painted. It first got sanded with different grits of sandpaper.

After this I applied a coat of primer followed by various mattblack finishing coats to ensure strength in the paintjob.

Gastube

The gastube is standard Tokyo Marui, the holes in the gastube got filled in using polyfibre.

This was followed by sanding, a coat of primer and a mattblack finishing coat.

Topcover

The topcover is G&G. This was modified to be more like a RPK topcover by cutting away a rectangle.

Rear sight.

The rear sight is a realsteel sight. It originated from the Russian Molot factory, which is the factory which produces all Russian RPK variants.

It can be adjusted for windage.

Rest of the parts

The base is an economical Guarder RPK kit, this kit exists of an outer barrel, bipod and the furniture. The bolt is a Guarder auto-blowback bolt.

The rest are various aftermarket parts. Everything was painted in the same shade of mattblack.

Serials

To create the serial numbers stamped on the various parts I used metal stamps which were 6mm high, these can be found on ebay amongst other things.

After this white paint was applied and brushed away, leaving only paint in the area pressed in.

Magazines

The magazine is a real 40 round mag, converted with the internals of a Tokyo Marui lowcap magazine. The top was cut to fit inside the airsoft body.

I got this mag from our Austrian reinforcement trooper ( thanks FIDO).
